NEW DELHI: Late CDS General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat will be honoured at the Delhi Cantonment on December 10th (Friday).

Their lifeless remains are expected to arrive in the national capital on a military plane by Thursday evening.

Visitors will be allowed to offer their condolences from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, when the remains will be taken to his residence, followed by a funeral service that will begin at the Kamraj Marg and finish at the Brar Square cremation in Delhi.

A military chopper crash in Tamil Nadu killed General Rawat and his wife on Wednesday. A three-day state memorial has been organised in Uttarakhand in honour of CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other troops who died in a catastrophic military helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu.

In December 1978, General Bipin Rawat enlisted in the Indian Army, joining the Eleven Gorkha Rifles' 5th battalion, the same regiment as his father.

Just days after the Indian government announced the formation of the CDS (Head of Defense Staff) job, retired Army Chief General Bipin Rawat was chosen as the first tri-service chief on December 30, 2019. General Bipin Rawat, the current Chief of Army, is the first person to be nominated for the office of CDS.

The Indian Air Force confirmed General Rawat's death on Twitter on Wednesday evening. He died of his injuries after obtaining treatment at a nearby hospital.

"With great grief, it has now been decided that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat, and 11 other people on board have perished in the unfortunate tragedy," the IAF tweeted on Wednesday.
