New Delhi: At least 13 airports which is under Airports Authority of India (AAI),would be privatized shortly as the central government on Wednesday sent a list of the 13 airports to the aviation ministry which it wants to privatize.
AAI officials said that they have already sent the list of the airports to the ministry and bid would be held through public-private partnership.
The official said that they are planning to complete the entire process by the end of the financial year.
He however claimed that bidder are available, even in times of Covid-19 as the effects of the pandemic are short term whereas the airports are on offer for 50 years, he said.
Meanwhile, the AAI has plans to group seven small airports with six big ones-Varanasi with Kushinagar and Gaya, Amritsar with Kangra, Bhubaneswar with Tirupati, Raipur with Aurangabad, Indore with Jabalpur and Trichy with Hubli.
Earlier, the Adani Guwahati International Airport Ltd (AGIAL) took over Lokapyiya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for 50 years from October 7, 2021, midnight amidst widespread protest from various circles. The symbolic key of the airport was handed over to Utpal Barua, chief airport officer of AGIAL, by Ramesh Kumar, LGBI Director.
"Adani Guwahati International Airport Ltd (AGIAL) today took over operations, management and development of #AAI's Guwahati @aaigauairport through PPP model for a lease period of 50 years," the ASAI said in a tweet. "Our entire team of Guwahati Airport shall always remember the efforts put in to maintain the successful, seamless and safe operations throughout under the able guidance of higher management.
