China Constructing Bridge Across Ladakh's Pangong Lake, Claims Geo-Intelligence Expert

New Delhi: China maybe constructing a strategic bridge across Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh according to satellite imagery accessed by geo-intelligence expert Damien Symon.

The bridge is being constructed across a part of the lake that falls within Chinese territory and it would connect both the banks of the lake.

The construction of this strategic bridge would enable the Chinese to swiftly transport their troops and weaponry thereby providing a logistical edge to the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Simon's tweet shows the near completion of the bridge across a narrow part of the lake.

The completion of this bridge would also mean that the PLA will have multiple routes to send additional troops into the contested area that witnessed a skirmish between the soldiers of both sides.

The Indian troops had moved atop the strategic Kailash range which is situated on the south bank of Pangong lake last year. This move by the Indian army provided them with an upper hand over the PLA forces in the area.

New Delhi and Beijing have deployed more than 50,000 troops in eastern Ladakh from the Depsang plains to the north and to the Demchok area to the south since 2020.

The decision to heavily militarize the LAC came in the aftermath of the violent border standoff between India and China in the Galwan Valley in June 2020 which killed 20 Indian soldiers and 4 soldiers from the Chinese side as claimed by Beijing.

However, India had disputed this figure and maintains that China had suffered over 40 casualties.

Also, a video from an official Chinese media handle on Twitter shows a Chinese flag being unfurled in Galwan valley and it also added that it does not violate the demilitarized zone between the two countries in the area.
