Choti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated by Hindus on the second day of five long day Diwali festival and this year the day is observed on Thursday 4 November. Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated a day before the main Diwali or Badi Diwali and a day after Dhanteras.

Narak Chaturdashi is usually observed during Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik as per the Hindu calendar. According to Hindu mythology is it widely believed that on this day of Choti Diwali, Lord Krishna killed Asura Narakasur, the demon king. The festival is believed to bring prosperity in the future and eliminate the greed inside people.

The day mainly revolves around the story of the powerful demon Narakasur who is believed to have 16,000 girls and even defeated Lord Krishna but at last, Krishna win the battle against him a day before Naraka Chaturdashi and also rescued the girls. Following the story, the day of Choti Diwali celebrates the mighty victory of Lord Krishna against the evil, Narakasur. On the occasion of Choti Diwali, devotees perform Kali Puja in some of the eastern states of India such as Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
