NEW DELHI: As India's Coronavirus pandemic story has changed dramatically in the last few weeks, the ICSE (class 10) and ISC (class 12) examinations have been deferred for time being on Friday.

The ICSE board exams for classes 10 and 12 were slated to take place on May 4.

The CISCE informed that the new dates shall be announced later after monitoring the Covid situation.

In its official notice, the chief executive and secretary of the CISCE board Gerry Arathoon stated that class ICSE 12 exams shall be slated be held at a later date and class 10 students can choose to not appear in the exam at all when the offline exam takes place later. They will be given an option to either sit for an exam along with the ISC exam timetable or choose to be reviewed by an internal process.  Read more

"The Covid situation will be closely monitored and the deferment of the ICSE and ISC 2021 examinations will be reviewed and a final decision on the conduct of the board examinations will be taken by the 1st week of June 2021," the press note of the council asserted.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Centre has decided to postpone the CBSE Class 12 board exams and cancel the CBSE Class 10 exams in view of the coronavirus situation.

The announcement came after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was attended by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, education secretary, and other officials on the same day. Read more

In view of the rising number of the deadly virus, Assam Government is also expected to take a decision on the SEBA HSLC Exam schedule soon.

Reports suggested that the Assam government will make a decision on HSLC examinations after the Rongali Bihu celebrations. Meanwhile, a section of the media has said that the Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the SEBA (State Education Board of Assam) HSLC and HS examinations will be taken only after the new government is formed, i.e. after May 2, 2021. It is to be noted that due to an alarming surge in coronavirus cases across the nation, many other states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Maharashtra, West Bengal, etc have either deferred or canceled their board exams.
