West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Visits Egra, Distributes Compensation

KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, paid a visit to the bereaved relatives in Egra, East Midnapore, where an explosion at an illegal fireworks factory claimed the lives of 11 people. Mamata Banerjee visited the affected families and gave them a cheque for Rs 2.5 lakhs as compensation.

Mamata Banerjee stated that a plan is being developed for the construction of a cluster specifically devoted to the production of green crackers in addition to financial help. She promised that a committee will be established in two months to talk about putting this proposal into action. To produce firecrackers that are environmentally benign, legal fireworks production facilities are being established.

"We are planning to make clusters for legal fireworks units, but it will be for green crackers. Firecrackers are illegal. But employment can be generated if green crackers are made," said Mamata Banerjee.

Beyond financial worries, Mamata Banerjee made sure that one member of each impacted family will have work as a home guard. In addition to denouncing those who attempt to politicize such situations, she reaffirmed her commitment to helping the families affected by the tragedy. The district magistrate will deal with any concerns a child who lost a parent in the Egra event may have with their education, the chief minister also emphasized.

Mamata Banerjee encouraged the communities she spoke with to be watchful and to contact the police right away if they come across any illegal fireworks installations. She also stated that she would act if the cops weren't able to resolve the situation successfully.

"I urge you to keep a close watch on any illegal fireworks manufacturing. Inform the police immediately. If the officer in charge fails to take appropriate action, I will personally ensure the necessary measures are taken. I have already replaced the concerned officer,” said Banerjee.

“With improved intelligence, incidents like this can be prevented. Considering the proximity to the border, where arms often enter from Jharkhand, it is crucial to remain vigilant," Mamata Banerjee added.

In the East Midnapore region of West Bengal, an illegal firework factory experienced an explosion that left eleven persons dead. Police sources claim that the plant was raided last month, and its owner was subject to punishment. Firecracker production in the facility continued despite the crackdown.
