Congress MP from Assam Sanjay Singh quits both Congress and the Upper House; To join BJP

Guwahati: Congress leader from Assam and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, on Tuesday, resigns from the Congress to make his way to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is to be noted here that Sanjay Singh, before joining Congress, was a BJP member and had shifted the party in the 90s.

Hailing from a royal family in Amethi and presently a member of the Rajya Sabha from Assam, Sanjay Singh’s resignation from the Upper House of the Parliament was accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.

Speaking about his decision to quit Congress and going back to his roots, to the BJP, Singh told the media, "There is a complete lack of communication in Congress party and the leadership is completely missing. Unfortunately, Congress is living in its past and is unaware of the future. I felt that in today's India, PM Narendra Modi is leading country with the vision of "sabka saath, sabka vishwas'. He is walking the talk and that's why the whole country is with him and so am I."

Thus, Singh, while leaving the Congress party, was seen criticizing the party to quite an extent. He even added that the Congress party lacks both dialogue and leadership for which it is not capable of doing anything for the country. Thus, he confirms that he has resigned both from the Congress party and also from the Rajya Sabha. However, Singh’s wife Ameeta too added to have resigned from the Congress party.

Sanjay Singh has also made it public that he will be joining the BJP party on Wednesday. Being a BJP member before, this will not be difficult for him to mingle well in the party.

While being in Congress, Singh had contested the Lok Sabha election from Sultanpur against BJP heavyweight Maneka Gandhi but had to face defeat as Gandhi won from that seat.
