Controversial BJP MLA Pranav Singh Champion expelled from party for a period of six years

The much controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Pranav Singh Champion whose controversial videos had been creating quite a storm on social media since a few days, is expelled from the political party. The decision of his expulsion is taken by the BJP disciplinary committee in New Delhi. BJP spokesman Divendra Bhasin has made an announcement on the same.

The BJP MLA’s expulsion would be effective from 17 July for a period of six years.

The notice issued by the party states, “The party has decided to expel Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, Representative of Khanpur in Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, for six years from the party on grounds of indiscipline. The decision is valid with immediate effect.”

Notably, a video of the MLA in which he was seen dancing while holding guns in his hands and drinking alcohol had gone viral on Wednesday, 10 July. The video footage was captured while the MLA was celebrating a house party. He was seen to be dancing to the tunes of the Hindi song Mujh Ko Rana Ji Maaf Karna from the 1995 movie Karan Arjun.

Not only is he expelled, but the licenses of 3 of his weapons too are also revoked. The licenses of his weapons were suspended on Saturday, 13 July.

A notice of 15 days has also been issued to the MLA to state a reply as to why the licenses of all the three weapons should not be revoked. The three weapons include a double-barrel rifle, a revolver, and a modified carbine.

However, the MLA, earlier had stated that the video has been edited. Reports of him seeking police protection from Dehradun police is also in news, wherein he had alleged of receiving a threat to him and his family.

The Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Janmejay Khanduri has reported that the licenses of all three weapons of the MLA have been cancelled on security and safety grounds.
