COVID-19: 25 members of a family test positive for their congested living

MUMBAI: How could maintaining the social distancing help check the spread of the novel coronavirus turn almost reality in India. As per reports, all 25 members of a family of Maharashtra’s Sangli have been infected by deadly COVID-19 due to their congested living. Sources said that four members of the family recently returned from Saudi Arabia. On March23, they had tested novel coronavirus positive. In the following week the other members of the family including a two-year-old child tested positive. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had declared the on-going 21-day-long nationwide lockdown to break the dreaded virus chain and urged the citizens to maintain social distancing. Several Health specialists across the world opined that only social distancing could check the spread of the deadly virus. Commenting on the Sangli incident one Health expert said, “If a coronavirus positive person coughs in the house, his droplets spread on objects in the room. Then, other member/s of the family become highly vulnerable.” However, the Central government has maintained that in India evidence of community transmission of the virus is yet to be found. Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus positive cases in India swelled to 975 and 25 people died in the pandemic, so far.
