COVID-19: Centre flags dearth of equipment; UP, Bihar & Assam report most shortages

NEW DELHI: The Centre in a presentation flagged shortage of equipment such as ICU beds, isolation beds and ventilators in several states needed to fight COVID-19 situation.

According to reports, UP, Bihar & Assam had the most shortages based on the data available until April 23.

It was reported that 143 districts in India have no ICU beds. And 183 districts in the country have fewer than 100 isolation beds.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID cases in India reached 26,917 on Sunday. Of the total cases, 20,177 are active cases, 5,913 people have recovered, and 826 people have succumbed to the disease. One person migrated to other country. As of now, 5,804 people have been cured with a recovery rate of 21.90 per cent. Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Sunday asked States with high load of COVID cases to focus on effective implementation of lockdown measures and containment strategy.
