COVID-19 lockdown: Adult-content apps' business spikes

New Delhi : Viewership in some apps which feature adult contents has spiked in India due to the lockdown imposed by the Union government to check the spread of COVID-19. The 21-day-long lockdown will end on April 14. This compelled all people to stay indoors. Due to that a large number of internet users in India has created or revived habit of viewing explicit contents for passing time and ending boredom which has helped to earn more by some apps that feature adult contents. As for instance, the viewership of Ullu App, which also features adult contents, has been increasing ever since the nation-wide lockdown came into place. Its subscription has also been increasing, revealed its CEO, Bibhu Agarwal. “We are offering a special offer for our new users. Originally, our plans were Rs. 144 for a year and R99 for six months. The new package is a 15-day subscription at Rs. 36. We have gained 30 per cent more users because of this plan,” he said to media. He also said to their platform has been streaming new episodes of their hit shows to lure more users. Agrawal hoped that these would help them generate more revenue.
