New Delhi- The centre announced that the registration process for the coronavirus vaccination which begins from May 1 onwards will commence from 4 PM today (28th of April). All the eligible adults above the age of 18 can register themselves for the vaccination drive via CoWin app/website, Aarogya Setu app or the Umang app. 

The official Twitter handle of Aarogya Setu, a mobile application developed by the Government of India to connect essential health services with the people of India in the combined fight against COVID-19 said, "Registration for 18 plus to begin on http://cowin.gov.in, Aarogya Setu App & UMANG App at 4 PM on 28th April. Appointments at State Govt centers & Private centers depending on how many vaccination centers are ready on 1st May for Vaccination of 18 plus." 

These are the steps to be followed to register on the CoWin portal from April 28 onwards to schedule your COVID-19 vaccination:

1. Log in to www.cowin.gov.in 

2. Register using your mobile number and generate OTP

3. Enter your OTP and verify it

4. Mention the details of your government-approved identifications such as Aadhar card, driving license etc.

5. Schedule your vaccination in a centre of your choice which will commence from May 1 onwards

6. Check the confirmation details in your registered mobile number

7. On the day of vaccination, reach the centre of time carrying the appointment slip and identification which was used in the time of registration 

Earlier, only citizens above the age of 45 and frontline workers were eligible to administer the vaccine which begun on January 2021.  

Many state governments like Assam and Uttar Pradesh amongst many others made vaccination for all adults above the age of 18 free of cost. 

As the cases of the novel coronavirus keep skyrocketing and spiraling out of control with every passing day, the government took the decision to vaccinate all adults to contain the spread of the deadly infectious disease making it the largest vaccination drive in the world. Read more

India has been mainly administering two indigenous vaccines- Serum Institute of India's COVISHIELD and Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN to inoculate people but after the massive surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus, the government from April 13 gave approval to the use of other vaccines used in different parts of the world like Russia's Sputnik V. 

Recently, owing to the pandemic crisis in India, the US decided on providing the raw materials needed to ramp up the production of COVAXIN vaccination in India. 

Meanwhile, India yet again smashes its own previous record of the single-day highest spike in the cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday as it reported 3,60,960 fresh cases, the highest ever single-day spike recorded globally. In the last 24 hours, 3,293 fresh cases of COVID-induced fatalities were reported taking the total death toll of the country to 2.01 lakhs. Yesterday's surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus takes the total tally of the country's caseload to 1.79 crores while the active cases amount to 29.71 lakhs. Over 3 lakh COVID-19 cases have been reported in India for the seventh straight day, making it the second-worst coronavirus-affected country in the world.
