Covid Cases Hit 8-Month High With More Than 12000 New Cases

NEW DELHI: After a temporary drop in the number of Covid cases in the past few days, the numbers spiked again on Wednesday to reach a new eight-month high. The total number of the active caseload in the country has also improved considerably.

The Union Ministry of Health mentioned that a total of 12591 new cases were detected as per the update posted on Thursday, bringing the number to a new high in the past eight months. The number of active cases in the country has also reached 65286 as per the updates of the ministry on Thursday.

With 40 new fatalities reported from different parts of the country, the total death toll has increased to 531230. A total number of around 4.48 crore Covid cases were detected in the country. The daily positivity rate stands at 5.46 per cent and the weekly positivity rate is at 5.32 per cent. Active cases now comprise 0.15 per cent of the total infections while the recovery rate stands at 98.67.

Meanwhile, amid rising cases of coronavirus across the country, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P.K. Mishra, on Wednesday undertook a review meeting to oversee the level of preparedness and public health response to it. According to sources in the know of things, Mishra advised officials to ensure operational readiness of hospital infrastructure till the sub-district level. He also highlighted the need to examine the Covid-19 situation regularly and update advisories to guide the states.

Mishra also exhorted upon the continuation of the ongoing time-tested strategy of Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination and adherence to Covid appropriate behaviour among the people. A presentation was made by Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan during the meeting, where he provided an overview of the global Covid-19 situation. He highlighted that India has been witnessing a rapid increase in the number of Covid-19 cases with the majority of cases being reported in eight states, namely Kerala, Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Rajasthan.
