Culture Minister Denies Reports of Conducting Excavation At Qutub Minar

New Delhi: After the reports came to the fore that the government has ordered the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct excavations at the Qutub Minar in Delhi, Union Minister of Culture, GK Reddy on Sunday denied the same.

"No such decision has been taken," ANI quoted Reddy as saying on media reports that the ASI to conduct excavation at the Qutub Minar complex.

Earlier the media reports claimed that the ASI has been asked to conduct an excavation drive in the Qutub complex to ascertain the facts about the structure.

The reports further claimed that Govind Mohan, Secretary, the Ministry of Culture, issued directives to the ASI to conduct an excavation on the site after visiting the complex and surveying it for almost two hours.

Recently, the National Monuments Authority (NMA) requested that the ASI remove two Ganesha statues from the Qutub Minar complex.

In this regard, last month, the NMA chairman had written to ASI, requesting that the two Ganesh idols are known as Ulta Ganesh and Ganesh in cage be shifted from the Qutub Minar complex to the National Museum.

According to him, the "placement of the idols" was insulting and the location should be changed.
