Cyrus Mistry Death: Accused Driver Has Over-Speeding History, Says Police

MUMBAI: Gynaecologist Dr Anahita Pandole, the driver of the car in which Cyrus Mistry was killed, is said to have a history of rash driving and was also issued several challans for over-speeding on several occasions since 2020, according to a police official on Thursday.

Dr Pandole was arrested and charged for rash driving two months after the fatal crash in September that resulted in the death of industrialist Cyrus Mistry. She has been charged with rash driving resulting in two deaths.

Even the Mercedes-Benz car in the accident is said to have been involved in several traffic violations in the past, the probe into the crash by police in Palghar district of Maharashtra has found.

On September 4 this year, 54- year- old former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and his friend Jehangir Pandole were killed after the Mercedes-Benz car they were travelling in from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, hit the railing of the Surya river bridge in Palghar district. In the accident, driver of the car Dr Anahita and her husband Darius is known to have suffered serious injuries.

Palghar SP Balasaheb Patil said that there were around seven instances in which Dr Anahita was driving and she was over-speeding, a fact that was captured on speed cameras.

He also added that these seven instances were spread from 2020 till September 2022, when the accident happened. Now, the e-challans against her are likely to be made part of the charge-sheet, he said.

SP Patil also disclosed that the car involved in over- speeding was the same that was badly damaged in the accident at Palghar.

The car is said to be registered in the name of J M Financials and was earlier also used by Dr Anahita Pandole, according to an official.

The official said the charge-sheet in the case would be submitted by the Palghar Police before the local court by the end of the week.

He also confirmed that Dr Anahita's statement in connection with the accident has not been recorded by the police so far. The gynaecologist is said to be recovering from the accident.
