NEW DELHI: According to data from the Union health ministry, India's COVID-19 case count reached 800 after 126 days on Saturday, while the number of active cases increased to 5,389 cases.

The nation's caseload grew to 4.46 crore with 843 new infections (44,694,349). The numbers updated at 8 a.m. showed that four deaths brought the total to 530,799 overall.

Kerala was able to reconcile two deaths, whereas Jharkhand and Maharashtra only reported one death each. The number of active cases has increased to 5,839, or 0.01 percent of all infections. The website of the health ministry reports that the national COVID-19 recovery rate was 98.80%.

A record 44,158,161 people have recovered from the illness, and the case fatality rate is currently 1.19 percent. The website of the ministry reports that the statewide vaccination campaign resulted in the administration of 220.64 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Six states have received letters from the Center advising them to concentrate on reducing the unexpected rise in viral infections.

In a letter sent to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka on Wednesday, the Union Health Secretary urged them to place more emphasis on testing, treating, tracking, and immunisation.

In a letter to the six states, the health ministry noted that some states were reporting higher numbers of cases, which could indicate possible localized infection spread. The ministry advised the states to take a risk assessment-based approach to infection prevention and containment in order to preserve the progress already made in the fight against the pandemic.

The progressive increase in Covid test positivity rates in various states was also noted in a letter from the health secretary, Rajesh Bhushan, to the states and union territories on Saturday.

He had described it as a worrying matter that requires immediate attention.
