Delhi: SpiceJet Aircraft Return to Base After Crew Notice Smoke At 5000 Feet

NEW DELHI: A SpiceJet aircraft operating from Delhi to Jabalpur returned safely to the Delhi airport this morning after the crew noticed smoke in the cabin while passing 5000ft, said a SpiceJet spokesperson on Saturday.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched a probe into the incident.

While passing 5000ft, the crew noticed smoke in the cabin while the lavatory smoke alarm went off. The cabin crew immediately informed the cockpit crew. However, on a visual check, no sign of smoke or damage was observed.

Climbing further, the smoke in the cabin increased, following which a return was initiated. The aircraft landed safely at the Delhi airport.

Recently, a Jabalpur-bound SpiceJet flight had to make an emergency landing after cabin pressure onboard dropped.

Within 12 hours after the incident, another SpiceJet flight had to make an emergency landing in Patna after smoke and flames were detected in its engine following a bird hit. The flight had 185 passengers on board, and all of them were safely evacuated.
