NEW DELHI: A major fire broke out at the biggest waste dump at the Ghazipur landfill in Delhi but it seems like the fire is unstoppable even on the third day on march 28.

Officials informed that two fire tenders are involved in the fire which broke out spreaded in different pockets of dumping yards in east Delhi.

Meanwhile, no casualty has been reported so far although the fire continues to burn for the last 48 hours as the firefighters are not able to reach the heights of the garbage dumps.

Informing the media, the fire department informed that efforts are ongoing by taking effective measures to stop the flames which might take a little longer to be done with the cooling operations.

Meanwhile, the Delhi police have filed a case in relation to the extreme fire incident on Monday that is leading to massive air pollution in the area till Wednesday 30 March.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in Delhi East said that an FIR was registered under section 278, section 285 and section 336 of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified people responsible for the fire.

IPC Section 278 is applicable to making the atmosphere noxious to health and section 285 is about negligent conduct with respect to fire matter while section 336 comes into action endangering life or personal safety of other people.

However, this is not the first time such a massive and unstoppable fire is seen in the area there were several other incidents like this reported every year.

Earlier, in recent days a total of 4 similar fire incidents occurred at the landfill sites among which two were from Tughlakabad and two reported from Bhalswa.

It may be mentioned that in 2021 a total of 16 fire incidents took place of which four spread over the region of Ghazipur and 12 at Bhalswa.

According to the data from the fire department, 15 fire incidents were reported in the year 2020 and a total of 37 such cases in 2019.
