New Delhi: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is lodged in Rohtak's Sunaria jail for raping two of his disciples, has been granted a 21-day furlough on Monday by state's jail administration.

According to report of Hindustan Times, he has been granted furlough from February 7 to 20. However, Singh will not be allowed to meet anyone except his family members.

''We will hand over to Gurugram police who are yet to reach Rohtak. We will release him by evening,'' the report quoted a jail official as saying.

The report further said the Singh won't be allowed to visit Sirsa. He has been asked to stay at his farmhouse in Gurugram.

Earlier, Singh had been given three emergency (Sunrise to Sunset) paroles to meet his ailing mother and get medical check-ups.

Since, his release has come up a few weeks before the Haryana polls, the people are of the view that BJP is behind his release in order to get benefited in the upcoming elections.

However, speaking on the same, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that his (Singh) release has nothing to do with any polls, adding, ''The Dera chief got the furlough as per the procedures.

The 54 year-old- Singh was convicted in August 2017 by a special CBI court in Panchkula and is currently serving a 20-year-old jail term.
