DGCA Defers Full Resumption of International Flights From December 15

New Delhi: In the wake of new COVID variant Omicron, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday postponed the full resumption of commercial international passenger flights from December 15.

The DGCA further said that the effective date for resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services will be notified in due course.

"In view of the emerging situation, we are postponing the resumption of international flight operations. We will, however, continue flights under the air bubble agreement," said DGCA Director General Arun Kumar.

Significantly, on November 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with senior officials over the Omicron variant, where he asked the officials to reconsider the plans to reopen international flights.

DGCA said in a circular issued on Wednesday said that keeping in view the evolving global scenario with the emergence of new variants of concern, the situation is being closely monitored in consultation with all stakeholders.
