Efforts of Digital Media Platforms Praised at DNPA Conclave
DNPA maintain checks and balances to ensure the correct and factual publication of news from across the country.

NEW DELHI: In a message for the Digital News Publishers Association Conclave held in New Delhi on Friday, Apurva Chandra, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting recognised the ability of digital news networks to create original content.
Apurva Chandra was a speaker in the inaugural session of the DNPA conclave when he highlighted several key points pertaining to digital media platforms. Mentioning them as the key generators of original content, he said that digital news platforms should be given a share of the revenue that big tech platforms. These include popular social media earn because of the users spending their time online while consuming this content.
He mentioned that "there have been issues regarding the financial health of not just the digital news industry but the parent print news industry as well post-Covid. For the growth of the news industry, it is important that the digital news platforms of all these publishers, who are the creators of original content, get a fair share of revenues from the big tech platforms which act as aggregators of content created by others."
He also mentioned the need for proper journalism and credibility of the content while adding that the failure of these will negatively impact the news and the future of journalism as a whole. His message also included the importance of keeping track of the rapidly changing tech sector and the ability to change with it.
"There are issues that impact the governance of a huge democracy, the changing dynamics of the news publishing industry, its businesses, and the social lives of citizens of the country and so on," he added.
The Digital News Publishers Association is the umbrella organisation comprising of some of the top news publishers in the country. One of the duties of the organisation is to maintain checks and balances to ensure the correct and factual publication of news from across the country. Several awards were also given out during the DNPA conclave in New Delhi.
