Engineering courses to be offered in regional languages from next year, says Ramesh Pokhriyal

New Delhi: The Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal informed that technical education, especially engineering courses will be imparted in regional languages from next year. The decision was taken at a review meeting, which was chaired by Pokhriyal.

Pokhriyal shared the information on Twitter. He wrote that even a few IITs and NITs are shortlisted for imparting engineering courses in regional languages.

A seminal decision was also made during the meeting that Engineering courses imparting #education in mother tongue will be opened from next academic year. A few IITs & NITs are being shortlisted for the same.

The meeting also decided that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will come up with competitive exam syllabus after it assesses the existing scenario at the school education boards.

NTA had already decided that it will conduct the JEE-Main exam in nine regional languages from next year.

IITs are yet to decide on if JEE-Advanced will also be conducted in regional languages. The ministry of education will discuss with the IITs to offer JEE-advanced in regional languages too.

However, what concerns most of the institutes is the faculty and study materials in regional languages. A director of an old NIT expressed his concerns on the logistical issues. He said that apart from faculty to teach in the mother tongue, there is another major issue of dividing the language-wise.

The Union Education Minister has directed the University Grants Commission to distribute the money to all scholarships and fellowship holders on time.
