Female shot dead in Faridabad, family says it is a case of 'love jihad'

Faridabad: A 21-year-old female was shot dead by her jilted lover and his friends in Faridabad, Haryana. The incident took place on Monday, when the victim, Nikita Tomar, a final year B.Com student exited from her college premises after writing her exams. Her parents have alleged it as a case of 'love jihad,' saying that she was being forced by her lover to convert her religion and marry him.

Video footage of the incident went viral on social media, as it was recorded on CCTV. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital after the incident happened, but she succumbed to her injuries.

The accused arrived in a car and tried to abduct her. It is when the victim resisted his moves, one of the other accused shot her. The police arrested both the accused. After the preliminary investigation, it was known that she knew one of the accused.

ACP Ballabgarh, Jaiveer Singh Rathi said, "One of the accused identified as Tausif hailing from Sohna was known to the victim and a complaint against him had been lodged by the victim's kin a few months ago for harassment and molestation but a compromise had been reached."

A family member of the victim has alleged that the accused who belonged to a Muslim family had been forcing her to convert from her religion and get married to the accused. When the victim refused his proposal, the accused killed her in the broad daylight.

According to the police, the accused was angry at the victim as she stopped talking to him. He knew that the victim was taking her exams on Monday and waited outside her college with his friend. The police have handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch, and are now waiting for the final post-mortem report.

The incident has ignited a lot of protests across Faridabad. Her friends staged a demonstration in front of Aggarwal College, where she was shot dead and demanded justice for her. They are demanding stringent punishment for the ones who committed this heinous crime.
