Ranchi: A CBI court on Monday sentenced RashtriyaJanata Dal (RJD) leader and former chief minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav to five years' imprisonment and also imposed Rs 60 Lakh fine on him in the fifth fodder scam case.

Lalu Prasad Yadav was among the 75 suspects convicted by a special CBI court in his final fodder scam case that involved withdrawal of 139.35 crore illegally in 1995-96 from the Daronda treasury.

After his conviction in the case on February 15, Lalu Prasad Yadav was lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail and then shifted to state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi.

Conviction In Earlier Cases

Earlier, Lalu Prasad had been found guilty in the illegal withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa Treasury. He has been sentenced to five years in this case. On the other hand, Lalu Prasad, convicted in the case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 84.53 lakh from Deoghar Treasury, has been sentenced to three and a half years. On the other hand, he has been again sentenced to five years in the case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 33.67 crore from Chaibasa Treasury.

Maximum Punishment

Lalu Prasad has got the maximum punishment in the case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from Dumka Treasury. He has been sentenced to seven years in this case. Apart from this, Lalu Prasad has managed get bail in all the four cases.

When buffaloes Were Carried On Scooter?

The most talked about case of fodder scam is the case of illegal withdrawal from Doranda treasury. In this case, illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore was done through fake receipts. In this case itself, the matter of carrying buffalo and fodder on a scooter came to the fore.

This whole matter is in between 1990-92. The CBI in its investigation found that the officers and leaders together prepared a unique formula of forgery. 400 bulls were allegedly hauled from Haryana and Delhi to Ranchi on scooters and motorcycles to produce good quality cows and buffaloes in Bihar. For Rs 14, 04,825, 163 bulls and 65 heifers were bought.

Lalu Prasad has been punished in the Doranda case of the well-known fodder scam carrying buffaloes on a scooter.
