Former Governor of J&K and Ex- Union Minister Jagmohan Dies in Delhi

New Delhi: Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and ex-Union Minister Jagmohan Malhotra passed away on Monday, in Delhi after a prolonged illness. He was the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir for two terms, the first time from 1984 to 1989 and then again from January-May 1990. He was popularly known as 'Jagmohan'. He had also served as the Lt. Governor of Delhi and Governor of Goa. He was also India's Urban Development and Tourism Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Condolences and tributes poured in from politicians and top leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his tweet called his death a "monumental loss for the nation". PM Modi further added, "He was an exemplary administrator and a renowned scholar. He had worked for the betterment of India. His ministerial tenure was marked by innovative policymaking. He condoles Jagmohan's family and all the admirers.
Amit Shah, Union Home Minister also mourned Jagmohan Malhotra's demise by sharing a picture of the late leader and said he will be remembered for his remarkable tenure as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Jagmohan was a devoted politician who took key decisions for the nation's peace and progress.
Bharatiya Janata National President, JP Nadda has also conveyed his condolences in a tweet and said, "Jagmohan was an impeccable administrator and a distinguished scholar and his demise is a big loss to the nation".
He is known as the savior of Kashmiri Pandits of J&K. Born in the year 1927, 25th September was a former civil servant and had held several top-level positions in the country. He was also elected to the Lok Sabha in the year 1966. He was honored with the prestigious Padma Bhushan (1977), Padma Shri (1971), and Padma Vibhushan (2016).
