Guwahati: The fuel prices on Wednesday were revised for the 14th time in just 16 days resulting in petrol and diesel becoming pricier than ever.

The prices of both petrol and diesel increase by another 80 paise on each litre which means that the fuel prices have increased by Rs 10 per litre with 14th revision.

The price of petrol in Assam's Guwahati city has increased by 89 paise a litre and diesel prices are hiked by 84 paise per litre and with this, the petrol in the city is available with cost Rupees 105.66 per litre while diesel cost Rupees 91.40 per litre.

In the national capital Delhi, the petrol rates have crossed the Rs 105 mark on Wednesday 6th April and now one can buy it at the of cost Rs 105.41 per litre. The diesel prices in Delhi have now become Rs 96.67 per litre.

In Mumbai, the petrol prices have reached the Rs 120 per litre mark with the price standing at Rupees 120.51 per litre while the diesel prices in one of the largest Indian state stands at Rs 104.77 each litre.

The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri defends the central government in its decision for the continuous hike in fuel prices in the country.

In a Lok Sabha session, Puri said that India has just witnessed a change of only 5% in petrol and diesel prices. The minister also compared the rising fuel prices in India with other foreign countries.

Puri gives a clear explanation of rising fuel rates in India stating that fuel prices in India are 1/10 of the increase of its prices in other countries.

He said that the petrol prices in the USA are hiked by 51% between April 2021 and March 2022 while in Canada it is increased by 52% and in the UK the fuel prices rose by 55%.

It may be mentioned that the opposition party has been continuously demanding a decrease in petrol and diesel prices in the country by staging several protests.
