New Delhi: Following the uproar by Sikh community leaders, the central government has allowed Sikh employees to carry Kirpan.

Taking to the micro-blogging site twitter, BJP's senior member Manjinder Singh Sirsa informed the same and also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for swift action.

''Recent order of @MoCA_GoI restricting Sikh Employees from carrying kirpan at airport during duty has bn changed. The corrigendum removed objectionable restriction. Employees (& passengers) can carry Kripan at Indian airports Thanking @PMOIndia & @JM_Scindia Ji for swift action,'' he tweeted.

Recently, a Sikh employee was stopped from performing his duty at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar as he was carrying kirpan.

After this, a few Sikh organisations protested against this and demanded to revoke the order disallowing Sikh employees from carrying kirpan.

According to reports, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami had also shot a letter to Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to scrap the rule.

''The dimensions of the 'Kirpan' must not exceed a total maximum length of 9 inches (22.86 cms.), including the length of the blade not exceeding 6 inches (15.24 cms.) and the length of the handle not exceeding 3 inches (7.62 cms)," the corrigendum read.

''It is allowed while travelling by air on India aircraft within India (Domestic routes of fully domestic flights only),'' it added.

Kirpan is a religious symbol of Sikh community.
