Graft accused Ex-Tripura Minister Badal Choudhury arrested from Hospital

Tripura ex-minister Badal Choudhury was accused of in Rs.638.40 crore graft case. On Wednesday, West Agartala Police Station brought from the ICU of a private hospital in Agartala where he said he was tortured by the police constables.

Choudhury said the police beat him up and his wife too. He was forcefully brought from the hospital.

As per reports, Choudhury yelled at the media persons who were gathered around the police stations when he was dragged inside. He was kept inside the lock-up where he complained about breathing problems.

After this incident in the police station, Choudhury was taken to state-run Gobinda Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala. Medical officers headed by Dr. Ajit Choudhury and Dr. Rajesh Debbarma are treating him. Dr. Ajit Choudhury is the elder brother of the ex-minister Badal Choudhury.

When Choudhury was being wheeled away to ICU he said that officer-in-charge of Agartala police station abused him. Subrata Chakraborty-OC of West Agartala police station caught by the neck and shoved him inside the lock-up. His wife was manhandled and was forced from the hospital.

Badal served four terms in previous Left Front governments as a PWD minister was booked in an FIR registered at West Agartala Police Station on 13 October along with former PWD engineer-in-chief Sunil Bhowmick and former Chief Secretary Yashpal Singh. After the FIR was registered Choudhury was untraced for six days. Later, he was found in ICU at a private hospital.

Choudhury suffered a mild stroke a few days back and hospital authorities didn’t want to discharge him since he had a blood clot in his brain. He might suffer from stroke if exposed to stress. His counsel Ragunath Mukherjee said that they have informed the High Court about the whole incident.
