Halal Meat Is Economic Jihad, Says BJP National General Secretary

Meanwhile, JDS leader, HD Kumaraswamy has asked the government to initiate action against those, who encourage Hindus not to buy from Muslim traders.

Bengaluru: After a hijab row, people in Karnataka have geared up for another controversy as CT Ravi, BJP national secretary; on Tuesday asserted that halal meat is 'economic jihad'.

"Halal is an economic Jihad. It means that it is used like a Jihad so that Muslims should not do business with others. It has been imposed. When they think that Halal meat should be used, what is wrong in saying that it should not be used?" he told reporters.

Recently, Hindutva organizations banned Muslims from setting up shops near temples and now some fringe organizations are demanding Hindus not to buy meat for 'Hosathodaku' from Muslim traders.

These organizations strictly said that this halal meat should not be offered to Hindu deities.

Hosathodaku is observed a day after the Ugadi festival and is an integral part of the new lunar year celebrations in the Mysuru, Ramanagar, and Mandy districts. Many Hindus eat meat on the day.

''If Muslims agree to eat non-halal meat, Hindus will also agree to eat halal meat. Halal meat is a Muslim method of slaughtering meat,'' CT Ravi.

Meanwhile, JDS leader, HD Kumaraswamy has asked the government to initiate action against those, who encourage Hindus not to buy from Muslim traders.

Apart from Kumaraswamy, a group of intellectuals has written to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai uring him to take action against those who are spreading hate.
