Head-On Collusion Claims 9 Lives on Goa-Mumbai Highway
Reportedly, the accident took place at 4:45 AM in Repoli village in the Raigad district of Maharashtra.
MUMBAI: A severe road accident involving a passenger vehicle and a truck left nine people dead in the morning hours of Thursday. The incident took place on the busy Mumbai-Goa highway.
According to reports, a total of 9 people died in the accident while one more was admitted to a hospital in a very serious condition. Out of the nine deceased, five were men, three were women and one was a child. Another child is said to be in serious condition.
Reportedly, the accident took place at 4:45 AM in Repoli village in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The location is more than 130 km away from the capital Mumbai.
The vehicle caring the people was moving towards Guhagar in the Ratnagiri district while the truck was travelling in the opposite direction, that is towards Mumbai. The head-on collision left the passenger vehicle completely damaged. It was a Maruti Suzuki Ecco vehicle bearing registration MH48BT8673.
Rescue operations were started almost immediately and the injured child was admitted to a hospital in Mangaon. The police sent the dead bodies of the ill-fated to the proper authorities for post-mortem. Although the reasons leading to the accident are not been known for sure, either one or both of the vehicles are expected to be moving at high speeds, judging from the extent of damage on the Ecco vehicle.
The local police have already registered a case regarding the accident and investigations have started to find the reason.
About a week back, one woman and her child were killed in a freak road accident in Bengaluru. An under-construction pillar of the metro system somehow collapsed and fall on a motorcycle with four people onboard. While the mother and son died in the accident, the father and daughter managed to survive with minor injuries.
