New Delhi: 'Martyrs' Day' is celebrated on 30 January every year and on this day many gatherings are organized across the country to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, as well as many dignitaries of the country including the President, Prime Minister also pay floral tributes at the Samadhi of the Mahatma Gandhi.

How is it different from 'Martyr's Day' celebrated on 23 March?

People often get confused between Martyr's Day celebrated even on 23rd March and Martyr's Day celebrated on January 30, but how is it different from 30th January, then one should know that Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January, while Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged on 23rd March 1931. Therefore, 'Martyr's Day' is also celebrated on 23 March in the memory of these immortal martyrs.

Nathuram Godse shot and killed Mahatma Gandhi at Birla House in Delhi on the evening of January 30, 1948. Godse had touched Gandhiji's feet even before he was assassinated, Nathuram Godse did not agree with Gandhi's view on the partition of India. When Gandhiji was assassinated, he was 78 years old.

The Central Government has asked to observe a silence of two minutes in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country on Martyrs' Day.

A two-minute silence will be observed on January 30 from 11 am. Along with this, there will be no work or movement in the whole country for those two minutes i.e., during that time the whole country will come to a standstill.
