Guwahati: Five years after the death of India's most popular president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, his memories remain afresh in the minds of the public. Kalam died on July 27 due to a cardiac arrest after speaking at an event in IIM Shillong. He was 83.

Dr.APJ Abdul Kalama was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. Serving as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007, he was one of the most popular presidents that the country saw. He was a visionary in the field of Science and Technology. Known as the Missile Man, he has contributed significantly to India's space mission. He was also an inevitable part of the nuclear test at Pokhran in 1998. He was very close to young people and he always loved to be among students.

On his fifth death anniversary, social media is flooded with tributes to the beloved president. Many shared artworks and his famous quotes remembering the great leader. Artist Sudarshan Patnaik shared a sand art of Kalam from Puri Beach. At the same time, many prominent leaders also paid homage to Kalam.

Leading politicians from different states in Northeast India also paid homage on his death anniversary. Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal wrote on Twitter, "Rich tributes to former President of India, iconic scientist, Bharat Ratna Dr. #APJAbdulKalam on his death anniversary. The 'Missile Man of India', his role in developing the nation's defence capabilities and imbibing the scientific temper among the youth remains invaluable."

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is an inspiration forever. A passionate doer and diligent achiever, his life is full of stories that all of us, and especially youth, should emulate.Tribute on his punya tithi."

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma also paying his respects, wrote, "Humble tributes to Dr A. P. J Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary. He was a People's President who inspired our young generation with his knowledge, ideology and humility.Dr. Kalam passed away pursuing his passion, doing what he does best- inspiring our youth." Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura also took on to Twitter to remember the inspiring leader.
