Indian Army presents military horses, mine-detection dogs to Bangladesh

Dhaka: The Indian Army presented 20 fully-trained military horses and 10 mine-detection dogs to Bangladesh on Tuesday in a bid to strengthen bilateral ties.

The Remount and Veterinary Corps of the Indian Army trained the equines and canines, according to a statement.

The Indian Army trained the Bangladesh Army personnel for managing these specialized horses and dogs.

The presentation ceremony was held at Petrapole Integrated Check Post (ICP) in West Bengal.

A senior army officer said, "The performance of military dogs in the Indian Army has been commendable. We are always ready to extend our assistance to a friendly country like Bangladesh in issues concerning security. When it comes to security, the dogs have proven their mettle. The dogs which have been handed over, are extremely effective in mine detection and contraband items."

The officer said that India's partnership with the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh stands out as a role model in the region for good neighborly relations. With this kind gesture, the bond that the two countries share is expected to grow even stronger, the officer said.
