NEW DELHI: The Indian Army’s new Directorate heads took charge in the Army Headquarters, New Delhi, in a major reshuffle at the senior level, including the new Directorate General (DG) of Military Intelligence (MI).

It was confirmed by sources that Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) RS Raman took over charge as the new DG Military Intelligence (MI) on Friday, along with Lt Gen Raju Baijal as the new DG of Strategic Planning and Lt Gen Rajeev Puri, who has joined as the DG of Information Warfare.

Reports earlier mentioned that the Indian Army not only got a new Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Information System and Coordination) but three new Corps Commanders as well. The ceremony of taking over charge at Srinagar-based Chinar Corps(XV) has been postponed as of now, it was informed.

Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor has been appointed as the new DCoAS (IS&W) at New Delhi-based Army Headquarters. He was earlier the Commander in Chief of the Jodhpur-based XII Corps. while Lt Gen Mohit Malhotra, earlier posted as the Additional DG of Public Information, took over charge as the XII Corps Commander. The Indian Army has three Deputy Chiefs in charge of different commands.

It was also informed that Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai is expected to be the Corps Commander of the XV Corps based in Srinagar, he will be looking after the Line of Control with Pakistan and the anti-terrorism operation in the Valley. The former XV Corps Commander Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujala has been posted as the new MGS (Master General Sustenance) at the Army Headquarters, New Delhi.

Lt Gen Gajendra Joshi, who had been commanding the Mathura based 1 (Strike) Corps has now assumed command as the new Director General (DG) Territorial Army. Lt General Sanjay Mitra has taken over as the Commander of the prestigious Strike 1 Corps.

Strike 1 Corps is one of the four strike Corps, which are given the mandate to penetrate into the enemy area as the war begins. While it was earlier under the South Western Command, it has now been shifted to the Northern Command after the Eastern Ladakh standoff with the Chinese in 2020.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen SP Singh has been posted in the place of Lt Gen PP Singh as the new Corps Commander of the Yol, Himachal Pradesh-based IX Corps. Lt Gen PP Singh has been posted as the new DG of Operations and Logistics.

The 1.2 million-strong Indian Army is comprised of six operational and one training command, below which the fighting formations of the Indian Army are organized into 14 Corps, each of which are commanded by a Lt Gen rank officer. A Command in the Army is headed by a General Officer Commanding in Chief, General Officer Commanding or the Corps Commander. Each Corps has three or four Divisions under it.
