Indian Railways Cancels Regular Bookings for Travel till June 30; Shramik & Special Trains to Continue

Indian Railways will be refunding all passengers who had booked tickets on trains that have now been cancelled.

Guwahati: Amid the coronavirus pandemic that has caused disruptions in life as well as economy, the Indian Railways has cancelled all "regular" train tickets booked for travel till June 30.

The Indian Railways has announced in an abrupt decision that the trains have been cancelled and refunds will be issued to all passengers who had booked tickets for travel in these special trains. ANI reports that refunds will be given for all tickets booked till June 30 in 2020. 

However, the Shramik Special trains allotted for ferrying stranded migrant labourers and 'special trains' for passengers that started running from May 12 shall continue to run as per schedule.

It may be mentioned here that on May 12, the Indian Railways had flagged off 15 trains in the ongoing lockdown with an aim to gradually resume the train services and also to return the citizens stranded far away from home across the country return to their native places.

It may be mentioned here that on the first day of bookings on IRCTC, the Indian Railways had booked tickets for around 80,000 passengers, and earned a staggering amount of Rs 16 crore approx.
