DELHI: India is known all over the world for its variety of food items. From a sweet loving West and East India to a tangy South India and a Chilly North India and not to forget the astringent North-east, it is a complete plate when put together.

In the fast-paced world, easy ready-to-cook food is gaining popularity among the Indian folk and we can see that even fruits are coming in packets these days.

With this rising popularity, India is all set to dominate the packaged food market in the world by 2025 as a result of the country's expanding economy and the changing lifestyles of its population.

India currently is the second largest food producer in the world but still has a long way to go to clinch that first spot. China like everywhere else also tops this list of being the largest producer of food in the world.

The demand for ready-to-eat food is growing among the Indian urban middle class as a result of urbanization, rising salaries of government employees, an increase in the number of women working, and also the ever-growing fast food market in the country.

The need to maintain the high demand and the quality of pre-packaged goods is increasing and in the next couple of years will double up its present figures.

According to a survey in the United States of America, the food market in India is expected to double by 2025 and will be a couple of inches closer to that first spot that China is enjoying presently.

According to a market estimate, the market size for the food consumption category is expected to grow at a compounding annual growth rate of 4.1 percent taking it from the US $155 billion to the US $344 billion by 2025.

India's love for snacks is known to the world and this market is largely untapped in the country with only a few big players like Haldirams and Bikaji ruling the market. In the coming years, the snack market in India can be a potential area that can give the country an unassailable lead over its compatriot China.
