NEW DELHI: India's President Droupadi Murmu today stated that women empowerment has always been at the core of the schemes initiated by the union government mentioning the success of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. The President made this statement while addressing a combined sitting of both houses at the Parliament's Central Hall in view of the Budget Session which is arranged to begin on Tuesday.

President Murmu further stated that the all-inclusive health of women, under the current government, has also been ameliorated more than before and for the first time in India, the number of women is higher than that of men.

Quoting poetess of Odia language Kuntala Kumari Sabat, President Murmu stated that the poetess in her 'Utkal Bharti' announced about a century ago that the woman of India is not inferior to anybody. Murmu feels proud to witness that today Indian citizens' sisters and daughters are uplifting their honor globally.

The President said that women today are recruited in every sector, starting from mining to the front lines in the Indian Army, and takes pride to say that her government has expanded the maternity leave from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. President Murmu further stated that the Indian government has been focussing on consolidating the heritage of the country and giving utmost importance to development. While the government is working for constructing the developmental work of the Kedarnath Dham and Mahakal Project, concurrently medical colleges are created in every district in the corners of India.

This is Murmu's first budget session speech as the current President of India. The Budget session of Parliament took place on January 31 with 27 sittings and will continue till April 6.
