JAMMU: Indian security forces gunned down four terrorists in an encounter on the outskirts of the Jammu region on Wednesday, December 28. The encounter happened after the security forces intercepted a truck in the morning hours of Wednesday. The gunfight between the two groups caused the truck carrying the terrorists to catch fire and local authorities sent in fire tenders to control the inferno.

"There was an unusual movement of a truck in the area. Police stopped the truck at the check post. As security forces started searching the truck, terrorists hiding inside fired at security forces. All the terrorists were killed in retaliatory fire," mentioned Mukesh Singh about the incident. He is the Additional Director General of Police for Jammu and mentioned that the truck was en route to Kashmir from Jammu.

Mukesh Singh said that the truck driver has somehow managed to escape during the operation and a search operation is on to track him down. He also added that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the damaged truck after the flames were doused. Accordingly, seven AK rifles, one M4 carbine, three pistols and other ammunition were recovered.

Jammu police mentioned that the incident took place at around 7 AM on December 28 and that the entire area was cordoned off soon afterwards. All traffic on the national highway was stopped immediately as the search for the driver continued. Following the incident, security measures have been beefed up along the national highway and the region as a whole.

Security forces averted another major terrorist attack when they recovered and defused a huge improvised explosive device in the Udhampur region a day before. According to reports, this bomb had nearly half a kilo of RDX along with seven 7.62 mm cartridges and five detonators attached to the explosives.
