SRINAGAR : After Joshimath, cracks have been developed in another region of Jammu & Kashmir. A number of 19 families were transferred following massive cracks that has occurred in various infrastructures. 

Approximately 21 structures has developed these cracks because of sinking surface in Doda district. The shift took place on 3rd of February, Friday. Doda Nai Basti is located on the slopes of Chenab river, with around 50 houses. 

The local people informed that, the slipping of earth occurred around four days ago, however, the impact showed off in the past 24 hours, damaging many house infrastructures. 

They further mentioned about the first episode of damage that took place in the region in December, 2022. The area is currently placed under red alert, states Athar Amin Zargar, the Sub-District Magistrate of Thathri. He further mentioned that, one part of the slope is slipping. 

The scenario got more intense on Friday night, when locals started calling the department out of panic, he added. A number of 21 houses along with a Masjid and a Madrassa were cleared and shifted. 

Many families were transferred in the Government Higher Secondary School for boys, located in Doda. The locals implied that, the area has never seen such a damage in the past ever. They further mentioned that, the affected houses are damaged in a way that the infrastructure has been weakened due to massive cracks on the walls, ceilings and so on. Mr Zargar informed that, concerned departments are currently assessing the affected structures.

Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister and Member of Parliament said that a Geologists team from India is on their way to analyse the cause and underlying factors in the affected areas. Both short and long term remedies will be undertaken as soon as possible, to restrict any further damage, he added.

A similar event took place in Joshimath, where several families, houses, establishments got damaged, after cracks occurred due to slipping earth.
