JNU Campus Defaced With Anti-Brahmin Slogans, VC Seeks Report

NEW DELHI: Slogans disparaging the Brahmin and Baniya communities were written on portions of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in Delhi. Students claimed that the School of International Studies-II building's walls had been vandalized.

The JNU administration became aware of the situation and denounced the act of vandalism. "The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Santishree D. Pandit has taken serious notice of the event involving the vandalism of faculty rooms and walls of SIS, JNU, by some unidentified persons.

'This campus's exclusivist inclinations are condemned by the administration. As JNU belongs to everyone, such incidents will not be tolerated,' the college administration said in a statement.

According to the administration statement, the Dean of the School of International Studies and Grievances Committee has also been requested to inquire and provide a report to the VC as soon as possible.

ABVP condemns the rampant vandalization of academic spaces by communist goons. The communists have written abuses on the walls of JNU in the School of International Studies- II building. They have defaced chambers of free-thinking professors to intimidate them," ABVP tweet read.

In some of the images posted on social media, the words "Brahmins Leave The Campus" are painted on walls "Brahmin Bharat Chhodo, "There Will Be Blood," and "Brahmin-Baniyas, we are coming for you!" We'll exact revenge."

In a statement released a few hours after the incident, the JNU stated that the school upholds inclusion and equality and that the vice chancellor once again has zero tolerance for any form of violence on campus.

The left-leaning Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, or ABVP, accused them of attempting to vandalize property.

"While the Left-Liberal gang intimidates every dissenting voice, they appeal to elect EC representatives that 'can assert the values of mutual respect and civility, & equal & just treatment of all.' 'civility' & 'mutual respect.' Highly deplorable act of vandalism!" the JNU Teachers' Forum tweet read.
