Jodhpur: Four Policemen Injured, Internet Suspended After Communal Clashes

New Delhi: At least four policemen were injured after violent clashes broke out at the Jalori Gate area in Jodhpur on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the two sides clashed over installing a religious flag in connection with Eid. The miscreants damaged the vehicles.

The police have to resort to lathi-charge and fire tear gas shells to bring the situation under control. Internet services were also suspended in the district.

Calling it unfortunate, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealed to the people to maintain peace.

"Unfortunate to create tension due to clashes between two groups near Jalauri Gate, Jodhpur. Instructions have been given to the administration to maintain peace and order at all costs,'' Gehlot tweeted on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, as per Jodhpur Police Commissioner, the situation is under control and that action will be taken according to the law.

Notably, on April 2 too, communal clashes had broken out in a Muslim-dominated area of Rajasthan's Karauli city after a motorcycle rally passed through it, allegedly playing communally-charged songs, to celebrate the Hindu New Year.

In response, Muslims had allegedly thrown stones at the rally and thirty-five persons were injured in the violence.
