BENGALURU: In yet another instance of increasing crimes against women, a new incident came to light when the body of a missing woman was found buried in the fields in Prasanahalli village in Karnataka.

The woman identified as Kavya (25), was a resident of the Hassan district's Holenarasipura taluk and lived with her live-in partner Avinash. She had been missing for 18 days until police finally found her body on Tuesday in a sugarcane field.

According to police sources, Kavya, a business management graduate, fell in love with Avinash while she was working in Bengaluru after divorcing her husband, Akshay. She resigned from her position and moved in with Avinash as he travelled to Parasanahalli in Holenarasipura. The police further stated that though Kavya was living with Avinash for one and half years, her mother Baby was not aware of her relationship. She was also not aware that her daughter had left the state capital.

The Karnataka police arrested her live-in partner on charges of murder and destroying evidence. When Baby learned that Avinash had killed Kavya from the inhabitants of Parasanahalli who informed her, she went to the police, who later detained the suspect.

Avinash has confessed to burying Kavya, according to the police. In this regard a police officer said, "Avinash has claimed that she died by suicide on November 25 and that he had buried her body to cover it up."

The post-mortem analysis also indicated that the woman may have hanged herself, according to the police officer. The police officer remarked, "But it is too early to draw any conclusions since we are awaiting forensic reports."

According to the police, when Kavya expressed her desire to wed Avinash, he began to avoid her. "The couple used to argue over getting married, and she stated it in a diary that we found. Kavya may have committed suicide, or Avinash may have killed her. The cop claimed that it is clear that Avinash tampered with the evidence and buried the body. Avinash was nonetheless detained by police under sections 201 (destroying evidence) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The police informed that an investigation was ongoing.
