Karnataka: Security Beefed Up As VHP Set To Hold Puja at Mosque In Srirangapatna
Srirangapatna: A right-wing Hindu organization is set to conduct puja in a mosque in Srirangapatna on June 4.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Hindu outfit is set to hold puja in the Jamia mosque following which the security in Srirangapatna has been beefed up.
Srirangapatna happened to be the place of 18th-century ruler Tipu Sultan and the outfit claimed that the mosque was built by razing a Hanuman temple.
According to reports, the police did not grant permission to the VHP to offer Puja at the mosque premises and had even placed barricades on the road to block their entry.
However, the members of the VHP defied the police's order and went on with their plan of offering Puja at the mosque.
Information has been revealed that the district police force contingents of Karnataka State Reserved Police were also deployed to the place and roads were barricaded and other security pickets have been erected in the town.
Meanwhile, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bomai on Friday said that the textbook review committee had been disbanded as its designated work was complete and the government was open to further revision if there remain any more objections. He says the decision was taken to make appropriate revision in the chapter about 12-century social reformer Basavanna, about which objections were raised by many scholars and prominent public figures.
After that, he conducted a press release on June 3 stating that school textbooks were being revised when there was a recent controversy that erupted due to the textbooks being taught in schools.
