Kerela Records Massive Surge In The Number Of COVID-19 Cases In The Last 24 Hours

Thiruvananthapuram: On Wednesday, Kerela had recorded a massive surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. A total of 19,675 fresh COVID-19 cases was reported in the state with an addition of 142 deaths. 

With this, the total caseload in the state has gone up to 45,59,628. Also, a total of 24,039 people have died so far in the state due to the deadly coronavirus.

According to sources, the state had witnessed as many as 1,19,594 sample tests in the last 24 hours.

The sample test had been done in 14 districts out of which Ernakulam recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases. 2,792 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in Ernakulam in the last 24 hours. Thiruvananthapuram recorded the second-highest cases with 2,313 new cases. Thrissur recorded 2,266 new cases while Kozhikode recorded 1,753. A total of 1,682 new cases was reported in Kottayam and Malappuram reported 1,298 new cases. The number of cases in Alappuzha was 1,256. In Kollam the total number of cases was 1,225 while in Palakkad it was 1,135. Pathanamthitta recorded 1,011 new cases, Kannur 967 and Idukki 927.

Among the newly infected, a total of 104 were health workers while 52 were from outside the state. 18,924 were infected through contact. The source of infection of 595 new cases has not been confirmed.

Currently, 4,81,195 people are under surveillance in various districts across the state. This includes 4,57,822 in home or institutional quarantine and 23,373 in hospitals.
