Kiren Rijiju takes Fit India Movement to Leh, lays foundation for artificial football turf

As part of the month-and-half long Fit India Freedom Run, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju on Monday participated in the Fit India Cyclothon in Ladakh. The local cycling association and the people of the Union Territory also joined in. The event started on August 15 and will continue till October 2.

Taking to twitter the Minister urged the people to not only witness the scenic beauty of the pristine landscape but also to make the #FitIndiaMovement a success by participating in the #FitIndiaFreedomRun event.

The cyclothon was a 25km ride where members of local cycle associations and members from the administration took part.

Rijiju reached Ladakh on Sunday to launch the construction of sports infrastructure in the Union Territory. The Union minister also held a preliminary discussion with local MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and his team of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council regarding the construction work.

The Minister laid the foundation for a Synthetic Track & AstroTurf for football in Leh at an open stadium and for a Gymnasium hall in NDS indoor stadium in Leh. This could be the highest football ground at over 11,550 feet. Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur was also present at the event.
