Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: It Was A Pre-Planned Conspiracy To Kill Protesting Farmers: SIT Report

New Delhi: Lakhimpur Kheri violence which claimed eight lives was a pre-planned conspiracy to kill protesting farmers, said a report by Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The SIT team urged the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) to modify the charges against the accused, including Union Minster of State Ajay Misra's son, Ashish Misra.

However, Ashish Mishra has already been booked under murder and conspiracy charges.

The SIT team have sought permission to apply section 307 (attempt to murder), section 326 (causing hurt with dangerous weapon), section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), and section 3/25 Arms Act.

Reportedly, investigator Vidya Ram Diwakar in the application filed in the court has asserted that the violence in Lahimpur Kheri was not an accident but a pre-planned conspiracy of killing protesting farmers.

At least eight people were killed in violence in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri in October this year, while 15 others were injured.

Protests on farm laws in the UP district took a violent turn as unidentified persons opened fire at the farmers.

Infuriated farmers set three jeeps on fire after some of the protestors were run over by the vehicles. One of the vehicles is said to belong to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home, Ajay Mishra Teni.
