Guwahati: Naga peace talks Interlocutor RN Ravi is appointed as the new governor of Nagaland. The announcement on the appointment of the governor was made on Saturday by the President of India.
As released in a press statement, the announcement on the new appointment of the governor was made by the president. The statement says, “The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.”
The new governor, RN Ravi till now, was working as the central representative for Naga peace talks in 2014. Ravi also is headed with the responsibility of deputy national security adviser (NSA). Now, with the new appointment, Ravi replaces the present Nagaland governor PB Acharya. Acharya, so far, was been playing the role of Nagaland and Manipur.
Before this, Ravi was a retired Indian Police Service officer of the Kerala cadre. Ravi had passed the IPS service in the 1976-batch. Ravi was also being re-designated as the deputy NSA (internal affairs) and as interlocutor of the government in Nagaland in October 2018. The re-designation was done as per the decision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Then in August 2018, Ravi received as extension as the representative of the government for conducting the ongoing talks with Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM).
However, along with Nagaland, five other states too underwent the new appointment of the governor. Another northeastern state Tripura too got its new governor. Accordingly, Ramesh Bais becomes the newly appointed governor of Tripura as he replaces the outgoing governor Kaptan Singh Solanki. Other new appointments include Anandiben Patel’s appointment as the Uttar Pradesh governor as she replaces Ram Naik.
Meanwhile, Senior Supreme Court advocate Jagdeep Dhankhar gets appointed as West Bengal’s new Governor replacing Keshari Nath Tripathi. The present Bihar Governor Lal Ji Tandonis now appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.
