Man flouts COVID-19 norms by Celebrating Buffalo's Birthday in Maharashtra; case registered

THANE: In violation of COVID-19 protocols, a case has been registered against a man who allegedly celebrated his buffalo's birthday in Maharashtra.

The incident took place in Reti Bunder in Dombivali area on Thursday, when one Kiran Mhatre (30) allegedly organized a celebration of his buffalo's birthday at his residence.

As per reports, Mhatre organized a gathering to celebrate his buffalo's birthday amid the COVID-19 restrictions. Police officials were quoted as saying that people who gathered during the celebration flouted Covid-19 norms, which have been enforced in some parts of the state. Moreover, those who attended the event did not wear masks nor maintained any social distancing.

Accordingly, a case was registered at Thane district of Maharashtra on Friday under IPC section 269 (act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and the Epidemic Act, however, no arrest has been made so far, said reports.

Recently, the state of Maharashtra has witnessed a steep rise in the Covid-19 cases following which several cities and districts came under partial to near-total restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.

Of late, the district administration of Aurangabad on Saturday decided to impose lockdown on weekends until further orders.

Earlier, Maharashtra's Jalgaon district on Tuesday imposed a "janata curfew" that has been implemented from 8 pm on March 11 and will continue till 8 am on March 15.

Moreover, 'strict lockdown' will be enforced in Nagpur District from March 15 to 21. Essential services and vaccine drive will continue during the lockdown.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned that more parts of the state could go under lockdown as the cases are on an upward trend. He further urged the people to maintain Covid protocols, which if not followed may led to another lockdown. He further appealed to the people to get vaccinated.

Maharashtra reported 15,817 fresh cases on Friday. As on Friday, active cases stood at 1,10,485. Maharashtra is among the six states that have been reporting over 85 percent of the total cases in the country. The other five states are - Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
