Man from Tripura dies from coronavirus in Malaysia, according to reports

NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old man from Tripura died in a Malaysian hospital after getting infected from coronavirus, his family member has claimed.

The youth, identified as Manir Hossain, hails from Purathal Rajnagar village in Madhupur police station area. He had gone to Malaysia earlier in 2018 and used to work there in a restaurant.

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday morning, Hossain’s grandfather Abdul Rahim told that he received the news of his grandson’s death from the Malaysian authorities.

“My 23-year-old grandson had gone to Malaysia about 2 years ago. We got a phone call from the Malaysian authorities on Wednesday morning, notifying us about Hossain’s death due to coronavirus,” Rahim said.

Rahim urged the government to make arrangements to receive Hossain’s body to India.

The virus, which originated in China, has asserted the lives of 170 people in the country alone, while confirmed cases have been announced in several countries across the globe.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is meeting again to decide whether to declare the coronavirus outbreak an international public health emergency, as China reported another 38 people had died from the virus.

The global health agency met twice last week but was unsure about whether to declare an emergency, stating it did not have sufficient information to decide.

China said on Thursday that the total number of deaths from the coronavirus had arisen to 170, with confirmed cases in every province and region in the country. More than 7,700 people have been nauseated in mainland China, while 68 cases have been reported around the globe.

The W.H.O. has so far commended China’s response. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the organization’s director in general, and also met with Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader, in Beijing on Tuesday. Tibet reported its first confirmed case which means that all of China’s provinces and territories have now been touched by the breakout.

Thailand has reported 14 cases of infection, Japan has 11, Hong Kong and Singapore have 10, Taiwan has 8, Australia, Malaysia and Macau each have 7, France has 5, including South Korea, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates each having 4, Canada has 3, Vietnam has 2, and India, the Philippines, Nepal, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Finland each have 1 confirmed case.

Russia indicated that it was planning to shut its 2,600-mile border with China as they are afraid about the coronavirus outbreak climbed in Moscow.
