Ghazipur: A man allegedly committed suicide leaving a note behind that read that he was taking the extreme step as the Bahujan Samaj Party denied giving him a ticket to contest the 2022 Assembly elections.

The man, who was a trader, alleged in the note that BSP President Mayawati demanded Rs 2 crore to allow him to contest the elections. As he wasn't in a position to give the huge amount, he was ending his life.

The Additional Superintendent of Police Gopinath Soni stated that they are investigating the matter and looking into the veracity of the note. He also said that nothing can be said until the investigation is done.

The district BSP coordinator Guddu Ram stated that the trader had no communication with the party and the suicide note was aimed at maligning the party. The neighbors of the trader, however, had something else to say. They stated that the trader regularly used to attend functions of the party and claimed that the BSP president was to give him a ticket for the elections.
